Dear HLJ Customers,
Thanks for your continued support of HobbyLink Japan.
On Saturday 21st February, the application of tariffs on International shipments to the US was ruled illegal by Supreme Court judgement, indicating they would be removed in the immediate future.
Since this time, the current US administration has announced that a new, global tariff of up to 15% will be applied as a temporary measure for up to 150 days under section 221 of the Trade Act of 1974. Announcements suggest this will activate from Tuesday February 24th, 12:01 in the US timezone.
Like many other businesses, we are currently trying to find out more detailed information on how the recently announced changes affect our process, and many details are still unclear. However, we are committed to lowering the cost of our duty and handling fee collections as soon as we are able to. If these new global tariffs proceed, it may represent a reduced cost from the previous regulation, which added tariff value per item based on the item’s specific country of origin.
As tariffs are applied to shipments at the time of arrival in the receiving country, the duty and handling fee amount we collect is based on a precise figure set by the courier services to the US that are currently still available: FedEx, DHL and ECMS. As a result, our handling of the situation will follow these couriers and adjust as soon as their individual rates adjust. As we understand it, the new global tariffs have not been activated yet at the time of writing.
Unfortunately, as tariffs are charged at the time of arrival for a shipment, we cannot currently offer any retroactive refunds or cost adjustments on tariffs for recently arrived shipments. Only items arriving after any confirmed adjustment to these rates will benefit from the new cost.
We will provide further updates as soon as we receive confirmation that tariff rates have changed on our website.
Kind regards,
HLJ Team
